Middlebrook Gardens is a garden design/build/maintenance firm specializing in ecology-based landscaping, California native plant gardening and sustainable practices in landscaping. Located in San Jose, California, Middlebrook Gardens was founded in 1976 by Alrie Middlebrook. During its first ten years Middlebrook Gardens specialized in interior design/build and maintenance. The firm received more national and international awards than any other California-based indoor landscaping firm.

In 1995, Middlebrook Gardens expanded its practice to include outdoor design. Alrie Middlebrook and Middlebrook Gardens have designed and built over 150 native gardens that reflect the natural beauty of the local ecology, conserve water, eliminate use of pesticides and reduce costs! “As a designer, I am inspired by nature and re-interpreting it in the garden setting,” said Alrie Middlebrook. “It is the collaboration of science and art that creates a garden that is beautiful, culturally rich, and ecologically sustainable.” Middlebrook Gardens was designated a “green business” by the County of Santa Clara, received the California Landscape Contractors Associations’ 2003 Sustainable Landscape Award for Contractors in the Design Category, and the prestigious Acterra Business Environmental Award in the Open Space and Habitat Preservation/Restoration category.
